In June 2021, the State Grid Xinyuan Jilin Dunhua pumped storage power station unit 1 put into operation and power generation success, marking the successful completion of the company Dunhua pumped storage power station SFC dry-type transformer research and development, manufacturing and commissioning of the whole process of work.
Special Requirements
Pumped storage is a crucial component of the new power systems dominated by renewable energy. It plays a vital role in ensuring power supply, enhancing grid security, facilitating renewable energy integration, promoting the construction of a clean, low-carbon, safe, and efficient energy system, and better serving the dual carbon goals (carbon peak and carbon neutrality).​​SUNTEN ​as an electrical equipment supplier, SUNTEN provided safe and reliable SFC input/output dry-type transformers for the Jilin Dunhua Pumped Storage Power Station.​​
Certification Requirements
SFC input/output transformers in pumped storage power stations face significant challenges, including large capacity, non-linear and periodically discontinuous loads, exposure to higher-order harmonics during operation, and the need to withstand frequent overvoltages. These factors impose extremely high demands on the stability of supporting equipment.​​

​Confronting these challenges, SUNTEN engineers proactively organized expert teams to engage in repeated technical consultations with clients. Through quantitative calculations of harmonic currents, simulation analysis of lightning impulse waveforms, and electromagnetic field simulations during the R&D process, they successfully overcame critical technical obstacles and delivered customized solutions.​​

Special Parameters
The Dunhua Power Station became the first in China to achieve fully independent R&D, design, and manufacturing of 700-meter-level ultra-high-head, high-speed, large-capacity pumped storage units. The units have a rated head of 655 meters and a maximum head of 712 meters—ten times the height of Huangguoshu Waterfall. During the commissioning and trial operation of the first unit, key performance indicators (vibration, runout, bearing pad temperature, and noise) demonstrated excellence, with guide bearing runout consistently below 0.1 mm during stable operation, showcasing superior performance.
